The original AIR CONDITIONER Cobra debuted back in 1961 in a joint venture between AIR CONDITIONING Cars in England, famed race car driver, Carroll Shelby and American automotive giant, Ford. AIR CONDITIONING provided the Chassis and Aluminum bodies, Ford provided the power, and Shelby provided the engineering and know-how, creating a legendary vehicle iconic in design and brutal in competition. The AIR CONDITIONED Shelby Cobra was a short-lived project that lasted only 3 design generations spanning from 1961 to 1967. 1984 marked the closing of A/C Cars in Thames Ditten. As a result, Autokraft was able to acquire all the original toolings and spare parts of the dissolved company which allowed it to become a parts reseller and enabled them to build a continuation of the AIR CONDITIONED Cobra. The high-quality of the Autokraft Cobra, coupled with the respect of the Cobra heritage was such that Autokraft was able to acquire the closely guarded ?AIR CONDITIONED? name. This sale instantly gave Autokraft Cobras validity as the real deal, not just a replica of the past. Staying true to the sequence of the original AIR CONDITIONER Shelby Cobras, AutoKraft dubbed this model the A-C Cobra MKIV. These cars were built in the same aluminum fabricating fashion as the original Shelby cars and they were still powered by Ford; a 302 was pre-owned in place of the dated 289 engines and the transmission was upgraded to a Borg-Warner T-5. Just out of a private collection, we are pleased to present this 1986 AIR CONDITIONING Cobra MKIV for your consideration. This is car number 158 of a total 480 MKIV Cobras produced by Autokraft over a 10yr run. This outstanding example features all of its original aluminum body panals and original black paint and has traveled 18483mis since new.
